From the Original Greek The irrepressible W. B. G odbey was in the vanguard of the Holiness Movement for the latter half of the nineteenth century. An energetic evangelist, his personality naturally permeates his writing, along with his large vocabulary and deep knowledge. Among those attributes was his fluent Greek, which he habitually employed in his private devotions, along with the sermons he delivered and books he authored. With his unique harmony of the Gospels, Translation of the New Testament from the Original Greek was, he said, a response to popular demand. He readily employed current English words as interpretation of the Greek, and happily made the result relevant to the times. For instance, dynamite, the powerful explosive that enabled so many wonders in engineering, had recently been invented (1867). Its creator, Swedish chemist and engineer Alfred Nobel, took its name from the Greek word dunamis , meaning “power.” Godbey made frequent use of the word for translations in this and many other books— i.e., “the dynamite of the Spirit,” etc. This work includes his unique harmony of the Gospels. At first glance it may seem confusing, but it quickly becomes understandable and a working asset to understanding the chronology of the first four books of the New Testament. This volume will be a handy addition to study tools for private devotions, sermons, and scholastic research. It is a fitting example of the work of this inimitable evangelist for the message of heart holiness. (5.25”x 8.0”)
